[ He was not explicitly looking for Akane, but when Lea catches her on his way inside the shrine, he doesn't object, either. He does have a question for her and all. ]

Hey, Akane. That thing you were talking about with Lune... What did you guys do, exactly?

[specialdog]

[ Hey, it's Lea! Akane likes Lea! She stops and when she turns to face him, relaxes a bit, putting a hand in her hoodie pocket. ]

An escape room, basically. But worse than normal ones. [ Does he even know about normal ones??? oh well. ]

[leaberator]

[ i'm going to say yes for the ease of my own mind, and he winces ]

Yikes. What is this, puzzle week? [ the coffin, an escape room, the boxes... it never ends?? ] You said you guys succeeded, right?

[specialdog]

[ She has no witty response for that first part. She's too annoyed by the Murder. But not by him or his comment. ]

Yeah. It was way back on Tuesday; we did everything they wanted. So I thought...

I guess I just thought we'd all be fine, afterwards.

[leaberator]

[ ah. ]

It's a pretty good thought, but... I think if it was that easy, they'd have let us go already. [ but it's not a rebuke, just soft, as if he's just considering the option. ] It might've been that whoever it was got corrupted before that. We don't know yet how that happens.

[ do they know anything at all? ]

But we do know that they aren't themselves. That they get corrupted and then don't even remember what they've done.

[ That's one of the parts of this she hates the most. Not being able to hold anyone accountable, or really trust them, even if she trusts them. ]

... Maybe it lays latent for a long time. Like the idea of someone being corrupted from the moment they got here, and not realizing.

... I think that might be worse. Wouldn't that mean there's nothing we can do for everyone already corrupted?

It's not like there's nothing we can do. We can purify them.

[ which. means killing them. but okay. ]

Or do you think there's some other way of healing people? That's pretty naive to expect.

[ first of all: yikes. it's a good thing he's so used to yikes talk!! ]

There isn't right now, but purifying them like that can't be our only solution. The way it's been talked about, it's stopping it from growing, not from existing altogether. What, are we gonna chop off heads until there's none of us left?

[specialdog]

[ Akane is very Yikes sometimes... ]

It doesn't feel like we have any other choice. [ but at least she doesn't sound happy about it. ]

I don't mind trying naive solutions, but there has to be an action we can take. Just talking about not wanting to kill each other won't fix it. Wanting to be superheroes or thinking villains can be saved is childish unless you actually know what to do.

[leaberator]

[ there's a lot, theoretically, he could say about that, but it's not like he's used to defending the optimism. that's not really his style. ]

I didn't say we stopped doing it if it's our only option right now. If I wanted to stop it, I'd have done it last week. [ blunt. ] But that doesn't mean we can't search for how to fix it. The entire point of us being here is to figure things out, or whatever.

I'm just worried about how many people are saying that we should all just try to strengthen our bonds, as if that will help.

[leaberator]

[ bonds just make him think of hisoka and he. sighs. deeply. he's a big believer in friendship but he has his limits and he's also like, the poster boy for secret keeping in friendships, so. whoops. ]

I know they've talked about it, but... Kinda hard to pull off when we're living on the edge like this. I guess Lune and Sol have been emphasizing it 'cause without this partnership thing, the darkness just invites itself right in.

[ that was a fun two minutes last time. ]

WEEK 2, SUNDAY

[ wherever she is, this is happening because i'm belated as FUCK, axel says her and raises a hand in casual greeting ]

Hey, Akane.

[specialdog]

[ She's in the water zone, squinting suspiciously at where there were once footprints. But she brightens a bit when she sees him! ]

Oh, hey.

[leaberator]

[ ... ah, the way she looked at the ground... ]

Nothing left of it, huh?

[specialdog]

It's so weird, right? The footprints in the water weren't washed away, but normally they'd be gone pretty quick.

Well, they're gone now.

[leaberator]

Right? I don't get it. Is there even a power on the list that fits with that...?

[ how does footprint work ]

[specialdog]

Water manipulation to keep it from washing them away, maybe? Moonbeam to strengthen that control...?

I don't know... I've been thinking about it all day.

[leaberator]

But then the question is why? Even if it was to frame someone, it's not like we got any closer to figuring it out just from the footprints.

[specialdog]

Yeah. We pretty much had to abandon the entire case and focus on Swift Wind, 'cause we really weren't getting anywhere.

[leaberator]

The whole thing's giving me a headache.

It's a collective headache! The last minute clues are making me mad.

[leaberator]

They're better than nothing, but... The fact that we're struggling so hard 'til the last minute that we even need 'em is bad enough as it is.

I don't think we would have figured it out without that hint, you know?
