[ she turns her box over a bit as well, before shaking it gently to see if she ca hear anything. ]

Something... small? You got me there. I was mostly thinking anything that fits in here at least can't be awful.

Maybe a trinket, or... something to help us here? I guess we'll only know if we figure out how to crack the code.

Of those two options, a trinket sounds a lot more likely. [ so much for optimism? ] But it's worth a shot trying to open 'em to make sure. How good are you at puzzles?

... Reasonable? Maybe? It's not my hobby or anything, but I think I have the patience to sit and figure one out.

lawd okay how do these boxes even work i'm dumb and can't read all of a sudden. she reaches out and tries to tug at one of the jutting edges, frowning when it doesn't seem to move very easily. ]

[ he laughs at that, then settles to look at her solve it. we are going to have a very stupid thread now, because neither one of us knows how puzzle boxes work. after a while, he offers ]

Try doing it harder. Either way, pushing or pulling. Just go nuts on it.

It's not breaking it if it's just testing to see if anything moves at all!

[ She frowns at the box, like it has personally offended her. And, because the only puzzle box solution I found is the one where you push on the opposite ends to open it, this is what I'm goin' with. So when she kinda squeezes the box to get more force going, something shifts. Just a little. ]

[ it isn't broken YET and that is what matters. but he holds a hand out for the box, because he is not enough of a little bitch to take it from her without permission. ]

[ once he has it in hand, he presses on it, hard-- and somehow another part of the puzzle pops up, even tho wooden puzzles probably don't do that, solely so it's funny ]

Sometimes the puzzle is getting something open without a lock in and of itself. So it's about shifting pressure and the material itself.
