[ axel might not have been interested in talking to sol and lune immediately after that-- he needed some time to step back-- but he definitely listened to their conversations. which is why he immediately goes off after Xion when she runs away from Sol.
Sol... something about him is just... It kept niggling at him, but. The way he said Xion's name right then...
It doesn't matter right now. He's going after Xion first. ]
Xion, hey-- wait--
[ he grabs at her arm to stop her like we're that sad scene in castle oblivion <3 ]
[ instinctively, she tries to wrench her arm out of his grasp, but her heckles do not raise any further once she realizes who's got a hold on her. she remains on her feet, back still turned to lea as her shoulders sink slightly. ]
. . . xion probably needed to be physically dragged away from mary—or whatever had possessed her—after the conclusion of the trial. seeing her friend completely taken over by the corruption like that... it had triggered something wrathful within her, and even though the only weapon she had access to was a stick, it probably still wasn't pretty to be hit with over and over again the way xion had done to mary.
so. lea. what are you gonna do with a slightly hysterical and feral daughter ]
well slightly hysterical and feral daughter he forcibly dragged away, it's time to pull an anime trope and just try and hug you into submission. shooshpap, etc. except it's like, just bending over and putting his hands on her shoulders right now but look you get the idea ]
[ she's currently at a point where she's struggling against lea's hold, even as furious tears roll down her cheeks, but... it doesn't seem like she's actively trying to break free. she still screams her protestations, though, voice cracking as she chokes back sobs. ]
But the darkness still has her—we need to make it let her go!
[ on monday morning, xion wakes up in a cold sweat.
she isn't used to having nice dreams in the first place, but this... is different. for one, the one she has as the new week begins is not a mysterious memory from someone else's past, but a recent one of her own. in the vision, she sees mary before her, crying profusely before her sclerae turn black and those sobs morph into twisted cackles. this image lingers for a few seconds before bursting into flames. for a moment, xion is confused—this isn't how things happened on saturday. she only really knows her dreams to be events exactly as they happened...
then suddenly, as she's contemplating her unconscious state of mind, the figure within the fire starts to change. its torso and limbs elongate, its hair spikes out, its silhouette becomes painfully familiar.
the last thing xion hears before she wakes up is lea screaming in agony, and god, it feels so real. real enough that as soon as she's conscious, she leaps out of bed and bolts out of her house. she runs toward the center of the village in a frenzied state, screaming at the top of her lungs, ]
Axel?! AXEL—!
[ she never stops running as she desperately continues to search for him, thinking "please, no, not him too, he can't be—" ]
[ It's not like he'd expected a good night's sleep, is the thing. Of course he hadn't. Between Mary and his new partner, Axel had prepared himself to have a pretty restless night.
He hadn't expected the vision. The dream? It felt real. Xion had been there, pleading with something, and then she'd just...
...
faded away.
He's trying to rationalize it to himself even as he walks through the village. It's just because of Mary. It doesn't matter how real it felt. Feelings can be misleading. She can't be gone. Not again. Was he even remembering it right? Had she been smiling in acceptance, at the end, or is that what he thinks happened the first-- it couldn't have been real. He can't-- he wouldn't be able to--
But he hears her before he sees her, before he even reaches her house-- and his heart leaps in his throat at how frantic she sounds. ]
Xion? Xion!
[ he forgets anything he might have rationalized, breaking off into a run until he sees her-- whole, uninjured, alone-- in the center of the village, and he doesn't even think as he grabs her as soon as he reaches her, clinging, desperate. ]
[ her artificial heart skips a beat when she hears his voice answering her pleas. with wide eyes, she dashes toward the source, praying that she isn't just hearing things, that the figure that soon comes into view doesn't disappear right before her eyes.
but no, it really is him, and his arms are around her, and she's pressing her face into his chest, and she's crying so hard she doesn't know what to do with herself. it doesn't even occur to her that he's just as anguished as she is; all she's focused on is the fact that he's okay. ]
I had a vision... I thought... that you...
[ it's difficult to parse her words through her choked sobs; unsurprisingly, she's feeling a little overwhelmed by her emotions. ]
[ There are a couple of things he's been putting off. But, after this weekend...
He should at least try, instead of keeping it secret forever.
Which is why he's here with Xion, making both of them bowls of ice cream after they somehow tag teamed getting another teenage girl executed. Yaaaay. They helped.
this game is a nightmare ]
How is it that every single time I look, there's never any sea-salt in here? [ he's grumbly. ] Alright, your options today are: Hokey Pokey, Moon Mist, and something called "Raspberry Ripple", so you better pick it, 'cause at least that one I know what's in it.
[ after everything they've gone through (and god, it's only been two weeks), being able to have some ice cream with lea is the kind of comfortable familiarity xion needs to keep herself together.
it's not really forgetting about the situation if it's just pushing it to the back of your mind for the moment, right? ]
Hm... actually, why not Moon Mist? I saw you and Lune were being pretty friendly the other day...
[ a soft laugh, even though she has zero idea about flirting, thanks ]
[ he's halfway through grabbing it with a shrug when she says the name, but he pauses to look at Xion with a raised eyebrow at the comment. he's smiling, though, because why would anyone be accusing him of flirting? ha ha not a thing ]
Why're you saying that like it's new? I'm a friendly guy!
[ besides, if he's "pretty friendly" with either of them, it's sol, which is... one of the things he should talk to her about. he finishes fishing out the ice cream and automatically reaches for bowls, because their life is sad and they are not allowed anything on sticks. ]
[ it's one thing when she's trying to keep up appearances around other people... it's something else when she's with lea. with the bed all to herself now, she's sitting hunched over on the middle of it, arms around her legs, knees pulled close to her chest.
she doesn't say anything to him; she just holds one arm out to accept whatever form of frozen dessert he's brought with him today. ]
[ well. he's gonna give her a flavor called half-baked, because this is how everything feels right now and also because the description sounded good when i googled it.
He sits down next to her after handing her the ice cream, quiet for a bit. There's nothing much to say to comfort her, and he wants to wait and see if she even wants to talk, first. ]
[ hey lea i know you have some exciting news for your daughter but she's maybe a little Not Okay after everything this week so if you wanna still poke her while she's all alone in hers and minato's house then you still can i guess, ]
[ the bracelet's in her hand before she can even make her confusion known, and even then, it doesn't last long—it's too quickly replaced by a small, wistful smile. ]
Like... from the people that are gone? [ he takes out his oracle bell and shows her this one ] 'Cause if you've got the key to this thing, I'm all ears.
