For the rest, he looks around himself with a shrug. ]

[ he says it the side of too casual, because of course it hurts to bring her up right then and there-- but he doesn't want to admit to it, so. ]

You and Tsurumaru do a lot of redecorating in yours?

[He's tempted to be a little mean to see what Lea will do. He'll get to that in a minute.]

Maybe if he stuck around longer. He was too busy playing with the chickens. Ah...

[Again, he casts a glance around the place, turning as he steps in until he's all the way back around to face Lea.]

I guess that must be why Mary didn't hang around long either. The two of you didn't make the house feel like a home. She couldn't find a family no matter where she went, could she?

[ his jaw clenches. he knows what hisoka's playing at--he's not stupid-- but he can't help himself but rise to the bait anyway. having a heart fucking sucks. ]

[He smiles wolfishly at the response; it's exactly what he wanted. A good chunk of him would like to keep going. He's been itching for a fight, but...

In the end, it wouldn't have mattered. Did she tell you her secret?

[ she told him a lot of things, and not a single one of them he's willing to share with hisoka. ]

Oh. Did she not trust you with it? [He smiles, but he won't tease for very long. Lea gets a small shrug.] Her favorite game to play.

It was the game "that ends when the loser doesn't move anymore."

he takes that in, silent and still. then he tilts his head up to stare at hisoka with a mostly blank face, though there's no hiding the contempt in his eyes. ]

Of that. But there's more of other things.

[If he's bothered by the lack of reaction, he doesn't show it. Slowly, he starts heading for Lea on the bed, his pace easy and slow.

Lea can move, or Lea can square up to him. He needs to pick his poison. Hisoka seems to be giving him time to decide.]

[ unfortunately for everyone involved, mostly me, Lea stays right where he is, unmoving and defiant, arms crossed. ]

Hisoka doesn't stop because of course he doesn't. He scoots up flush with the bed and Lea, and then crowds Lea's space, crawling up on the bed and over him--Lea is going to have to fall back or risk clown touching.

But otherwise, Hisoka at least doesn't lie down on top of him.]

We're partners now. So your best interest is also my best interest. I hope you understand. [He drags one of the nailed fingers from the tip of Lea's chin down the neck, a warning.] We can't be sloppy, can we? Don't forget. Now then. Business?

Shess received a note. Did you know?

[ He does back down when the clown gets more and more in his space-- but there's nowhere to go, really, and all that happens is he ends up flush against the bed, still glaring up at Hisoka. He doesn't flinch away from the touch when it happens, either, only letting it, a small twitch of his chin at the end of it, like an afterthought to remove the touch that does nothing. His skin is crawling, but-- ]

I won't be sloppy if you're not. [ it's mild, almost like a warning, and there's a slight sizzle coming from the cover underneath his hand that stops just as quick. ] ... What note?

[Don't ruin their bedsheets. They have to share those?]

Ah. ♦ A pretty interesting one.

[When he tips his head a little, the earrings jingle.] Someone sent him a note. It said, "We see you when you sleep, / We see you when you weep, / We see you when you eat. / Hello this first week."

Curious, don't you think? Who could "we" be?

[ is he just going to. stand there the whole time? great. awesome. this is fine.

at the description of the note, he narrows his eyes. that... ]

Someone sent Shess that? [ hrm... ] You sure it wasn't you? [ but it's flippant, as he thinks. there's not a lot of options. ] Did he tell you when?

[Yeah, the danger clown is just going to hover over Lea the entire time they have this conversation. It's fine.]

Me? I wouldn't waste a note on Shess. [Too boring.] He didn't say when. Does the day matter...?

[ hell is real and it's this position, so Lea's just gonna go ahead and look away from the clown now. wow the ceiling sure is interesting this evening ]

Yeah, kinda. [ he does not feel like explaining his reasoning to Hisoka and so, won't. ] I'll ask him, if he's so uninteresting to you. [ ... ] Who do you think sent it?

[ why would he ask that ]

[Well, he has Lea mostly where he wants the guy, in a compromised position. So he teases by scratching under Lea's jaw with a nail, like someone would do a cat.]

Oh, I'm not sure. Feral does have a diary. That's paper, you know. For a note. Ah...

Naminé has a sketchbook, too. [His voice gets even more lilting about this.] Maybe I should pay her a visit to see...?

[ the scratching is bad enough-- he doesn't quite jolt at it but tenses like he's being electrocuted-- but the second Hisoka mentions Naminé, Lea goes completely, carefully blank. He grabs Hisoka's wrist to wrench him away, but when he addresses him, it's almost cheerful, if you ignore the clear edge to it. ]

C'mon, man. The stuff earlier wasn't obvious enough for you? I thought you wanted to talk business. Everyone here's got access to paper. Try being a little smarter about it.

[Oh, very interesting. He lets Lea move the hand away, but only so far before the forearm hardens at the muscles and becomes quite horrifically strong and unmovable. Ronald McDonald has a workout regime maybe.

He knows why, for the most part--the protectiveness. He at least has a best guess based on what he's gleamed The familiarity. But it's more fun to tease.]

You don't want me to visit her? It sounds as if you and her have something to hide. Do try to show a little more faithfulness to your partner.

[ Lea lets go when it's obvious Hisoka won't be moved-- he knows when he's outclassed in brute strength. (Often, truth be told.) He stays splayed on the bed, his tone dismissive. ]

[ he doesn't want to address the rest of it-- hadn't even wanted to think about any of it-- but he doesn't have a lot of choice when it's hanging over his head. Like a clown.

He is going to do it anyway, because denial is his middle name. ]

You this touchy feely with all your partners, or am I special?

[He puts both hands on the bed above Lea's shoulders right by the wild red head.]

I'm sure we both have things we want. Dying gets in the way of that. Which means we have to help each other hang around, hm? You scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours.

I'll even be nice. I'll tell you my element. It's water. We go so well together, don't we? Fire and water.

[ There's a long pause as he stares back at Hisoka above him, contemplative. That first half... it's weird to think something similar to that could've come from himself not that long ago.

He does not really want to know what scratching Hisoka's back would entail, though, so really, everything about this is bad and getting worse by the minute! ]

You know they don't go well together, right? That's kind of the point of opposites.

[Lea is the first person to make the clown chuckle. Congratulations. Lea is doing so great this very first partner meeting.]

Oh, don't be so dreary. It only means it's very easy for me to "put you out." Don't forget.

[Very slowly and languidly, he finally draws back and up off the bed. Lea is freed of the purgatory of being pinned beneath a sociopathic clown fighter.]

What do you plan to do? About what they've asked of us. Fixing the core and all.

[ hate it. what i hate even more is that he sits up but doesn't make a move to get away because he's an absolute fucking tool who's about to react to clown threats with bravado ]

Sorry, Hisoka, but no one's put me out before, and I'm not about to let it start now.
