But we still need to figure out a longterm solution. And I don't fully understand what Sol meant by keeping pathways between worlds open, if we want everyone, dead or alive, to return home. Specifically, how we ensure it stays that way.

I'm not sure. He didn't mention the gateway worlds in particular, but his entire explanation was still on the vague side and mostly what it meant for the core to be the heart of the universe.

If it's anything like how it works back home... If the core is the heart of the universe, if it gets corrupted, everything else gets corrupted. The only way to stop it would be to close the pathways between worlds.

... You'd have to ask Sol to be sure. But there's a few ways to open or close the pathways between worlds in general, so maybe one of 'em applies here, too?
